The Eastern Cape Provincial Government is set to host the 9th District Development Model (DDM) Presidential Imbizo on August 11, 2023. This significant event will be led by President Cyril Ramaphosa and attended by national Ministers, Members of the Executive Council, Executive Mayors, and Councilors from various municipalities. Premier Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane extends a warm welcome to the gathering on behalf of the provincial government.
The Presidential Imbizo aims to create an inclusive dialogue among social partners, government, traditional leaders, civil society organizations, labor, women, youth, persons with disabilities, business stakeholders, and local communities. It embodies the DDM’s principle of adopting an all-of-society and government approach to enhance integrated service delivery and create jobs.
Premier Mabuyane emphasizes the importance of community engagement as a critical aspect of democracy. He believes the Imbizo provides an opportunity for citizens to be heard and contribute to the President’s work. This collaborative commitment within the DDM framework will undoubtedly lead to improved integrated service delivery for the communities.
The provincial government will utilize this platform to advocate for the people’s service delivery needs. These include accelerating responses in disaster-affected areas, improving water reticulation projects, addressing crime management, and expediting the implementation of catalytic projects across the province.
Previous engagements between the two government spheres have yielded positive results, such as massive investments to improve provincial infrastructure. Notably, the funding deadlock for the R8 billion Umzimvubu Dam project has been resolved, and an additional R6.33 billion has been allocated to Eastern Cape municipalities through various water infrastructure grants.
Since the DDM’s inception, the Eastern Cape Provincial Government has developed and submitted eight DDM One Plans, designed to unlock significant growth and socio-economic development across the province. Premier Mabuyane calls upon the people of Intsika Yethu Local Municipality to actively participate in the President’s Imbizo and voice their concerns. He is confident that this event will foster a continued spirit of cooperation and commitment from all stakeholders, ultimately leading to the betterment of the Eastern Cape’s communities.
As the 9th District Development Model Presidential Imbizo approaches, the Eastern Cape community anticipates a productive and engaging event that will strengthen the integrated service delivery and pave the way for a more prosperous future for all.
