A Beacon of Hope for Struggling Households: City Unveils Indigent Support Campaign

Financial hardships often plague the most vulnerable, but the City of [City Name] is launching an Indigent Support campaign to alleviate the burdens faced by households earning R7,500 or less per month. The campaign offers debt write-offs, access to free basic services, and a 100% discount on property rates.

Expert Outreach and Assistance

The City has assembled a team of experts to visit various neighborhoods and offer support to residents. These experts will help residents complete applications for the support services and provide much-needed assistance.

The outreach effort extends beyond mere indigent support, as Revenue teams will also address pensioner support and general municipal account inquiries. The City will announce the Roadshow dates and venues soon, urging residents to stay informed via the official website and social media channels.

Making a Tangible Difference

Unlike other South African metros, the City has allocated a staggering R4.3 billion for rates and services relief to assist indigent residents and pensioners. The application process is simple, thanks to diligent experts guiding residents through each step.

Consistent Support

Successful indigent applicants need only re-apply every 12 months from the date of approval. Pensioners aged 60 and older have their applications valid until the next municipal valuation of their property comes into effect.

Application Requirements

Applicants must provide relevant identification and financial documents, such as proof of identification, bank statements, bond statements, and estate documents if applicable. Employed individuals must also submit their latest pay slip or a letter from their employer, while self-employed residents must provide a sworn affidavit stating their monthly income. Unemployed applicants must submit affidavits confirming their unemployment status and absence of other income sources.

Inclusivity and Social Support

The City has expanded the qualifying threshold for pensioners and social grant recipients, increasing the monthly income limit to R22,000 from the previous R17,500. Furthermore, the City has bolstered its social support package to a remarkable R4.3 billion in total for rates and services relief for the 2023/24 fiscal year.

A Testament to Empathy and Action

The City’s Indigent Support campaign is providing much-needed relief to struggling households. As we navigate life’s challenges, the reassurance of a helping hand can make a world of difference.
