A Catalyst for Constructive Transformation: The 3rd Men’s Conference of the African Union

South Africa, an energetic nation brimming with diverse cultures and a wealth of history, is fervently preparing to stage a distinct event. The 3rd African Union Men’s Conference focusing on the promotion of positive masculinity in leadership to eradicate violence against women and girls will unfold between 27 and 28 November 2023 in Pretoria. This significant event carries not only weight for Africa but also symbolises a worldwide shift in societal norms.

Embracing the Power of Media

The South African Government Communication and Information System has proclaimed that the media accreditation for the conference is now accessible. This esteemed forum will welcome Heads of State and representatives from diverse sectors to unite efforts to abolish violence against women and girls in Africa.

The media’s indispensable role in disseminating the conference’s message and resolutions cannot be understated. Consequently, media representatives are summoned to cover the conference, ensuring access to sessions, press briefings, and exclusive interviews with prominent speakers and participants.

An online accreditation process has been set up to facilitate this. Prospective media representatives can fill out the accreditation form available online at https://mrs.gcis.gov.za/3rd-mens-conference. The cut-off time for form submission is at 16:00 on Monday, 20 November 2023. Regrettably, any late entries cannot be processed.

Successful accreditation will lead to the media representatives receiving a notification via email, containing details about the collection of accreditation badges and other pertinent information. A valid ID or Passport and a press card or letter of assignment from the respective editor are required when collecting these badges.

Foreign journalists should ensure their passports are valid for a minimum of 30 days beyond their expected arrival date in South Africa and that at least two pages in the passport remain unused.

Uniting for a Greater Cause

The purpose of this conference transcends the discussions held within its walls. It’s a reflection of the African Union’s vision – a dream of unity, prosperity, and peace for Africa. The event offers a platform to stimulate significant dialogues and actions on a global scale, addressing issues vital to men in Africa.

The excitement surrounding the forthcoming conference is tangible. It promises to be a revolutionary event that congregates thought-leaders and pioneers, striving for a future devoid of violence against women and girls. It serves as a testimony to the African Union’s unwavering dedication towards cultivating positive masculinity and forging a safer world for women and girls.

In light of the global pandemic, this conference also showcases the resilience and flexibility of nations, demonstrating a staunch commitment to tackling urgent societal concerns.

For more information regarding the media accreditation process, Mpho Phatudi can be contacted at mphop@gcis.gov.za or on 079 605 2659. Media-related queries should be directed to Cassius Selala at Cassius.Selala@dwypd.gov.za or on 060 534 0672.

In conclusion, the 3rd African Union Men’s Conference serves as a catalyst for constructive transformation. It provides a platform for the united voice of Africa, driving towards considerable societal reform and the promotion of positive masculinity. The noble mission of eradicating violence against women and girls stands at the heart of the conference, heralding a fresh era of hope, resilience, and unity for Africa and the world as a whole.
