The bus driver claimed that a rock had been thrown at the vehicle, and he had to swerve, causing him to crash into the coffee shop and nearby cars. However, no official confirmation has been provided regarding the actual cause of the crash. In recent times, there has been a worrying increase in attacks on buses throughout Cape Town.
