A New Chapter for SALGA with Sithole Mbanga as CEO

The South African Local Government Association (SALGA) has announced the appointment of its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr. Sithole Mbanga. After an extensive and merit-based selection process, Mr. Mbanga assumed the position on July 1, 2023, succeeding Mr. Xolile George, who became Secretary to Parliament in June 2022.

Mr. Mbanga’s Background and Experience

Mr. Mbanga brings a wealth of experience in operations and strategic planning, along with extensive executive-level experience in public sector governance. Prior to his appointment as SALGA CEO, he served as the CEO of the South African Cities Network (SACN), a network promoting knowledge exchange, experience sharing, and best practices in urban development and city management. He also has extensive managerial experience in public and private sectors, including the Local Government Support and Learning Network (LOGOSUL) and the National Business Initiative (NBI).

SALGA’s 2022-2027 Strategic Plan

Cllr. Bheke Stofile, the SALGA President, has expressed confidence in Mr. Mbanga’s ability to lead the organization through its ongoing transformation, as outlined in the 2022-2027 strategic plan.
