A New Era of Youth Empowerment: B-BBEE and GCIS Host Webinar on Youth Month

The Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) Commission and the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) have partnered to organize a digital event on the 28th of June 2023. This event, themed “Beyond 20 years of B-BBEE: Youth Economic Empowerment opportunities through Enterprise and Supplier Development (ESD),” is part of the Youth Month campaign that aims to create awareness about youth empowerment.

Youth Engagement

The B-BBEE Commission and GCIS have initiated a dedicated effort to engage young people to expose them to the opportunities available under the B-BBEE framework, particularly in the area of ESD. The webinar aims to achieve various objectives, including:

  • Understanding the challenges faced by the youth in terms of transformation and empowerment.
  • Identifying good practices related to ESD.
  • Evaluating the impact of ESD and other B-BBEE initiatives on young people.
  • Exploring potential solutions to their problems.

Addressing Youth Unemployment and Disempowerment

The collaboration between the B-BBEE Commission and GCIS in hosting this webinar marks a turning point in addressing youth unemployment and economic disempowerment in South Africa. A focus on young people becomes increasingly important, especially in the context of Enterprise and Supplier Development, as the country reflects on the past 20 years of B-BBEE initiatives.

ESD is a critical element of the B-BBEE framework, aimed at promoting the growth of black-owned, youth-owned, and women-owned businesses. Over the years, these initiatives have sought to create a more inclusive and diverse economy while fostering skills development, job creation, and entrepreneurial opportunities.

Government’s Commitment to Prioritizing Youth Development and Economic Empowerment

The cooperation between the B-BBEE Commission and GCIS in hosting this webinar underscores the government’s commitment to prioritizing youth development and economic empowerment. South Africa’s young population represents a significant portion of the nation’s potential workforce, and it is essential to address their unique challenges and foster an environment that encourages growth and opportunity.

Harnessing the Power of Digital Platforms

This digital event exemplifies the adaptability and resilience of government organizations as they leverage technology to engage with young people across the nation in meaningful and insightful discussions. By harnessing the power of digital platforms, the B-BBEE Commission and GCIS are creating a space for open dialogue, knowledge sharing, and collaboration as they explore innovative solutions to the challenges faced by South Africa’s youth.

Impressive Lineup of Speakers and Panelists

The webinar, which will take place on the 28th of June 2023, boasts an impressive lineup of speakers and panelists representing various sectors and industries. These experts will share their insights, experiences, and best practices, shedding light on the role of ESD and B-BBEE initiatives in empowering young people economically.

Access to the Event

The event will be accessible via Zoom, with the link, passcode, and webinar ID provided for those interested in attending. Additionally, the webinar will be live-streamed on the government’s YouTube channel, allowing for wider public access and participation.

Investing in the Nation’s Future

As the B-BBEE Commission and GCIS work together to engage and empower South Africa’s youth, their efforts signal a renewed commitment to fostering an environment that promotes growth, opportunity, and economic resilience. This webinar serves as a reminder that by investing in our youth, we are ultimately investing in our nation’s future.
