Cape Town is brimming with excitement as the festive season commences, and the Stormers gear up for their first match of the season at the DHL Stadium. Eager anticipation fills the air as the Summer Sundowners series kickstarts, setting the stage for some of the most crucial matches in both the Investec Champions Cup and the Vodacom United Rugby Championship South African derbies.
The renowned DHL Stadium, a favoured ground for the Stormers, is getting ready to host an unforgettable rugby event. The match today takes on an added significance as it showcases the intense rivalry between the Stormers and La Rochelle, the reigning Champions Cup winners. This promising face-off has, unsurprisingly, pulled in scores of rugby fans towards Green Point.
But, according to Darryl Kroll, the Commercial Manager of Western Province Rugby, the day is set to deliver more than just 80 thrilling minutes of the game. The first of the Summer Sundowner series will draw from the previous experiences of the organizers to enhance the fans’ experience during the game, before it starts, and after it ends.
In Kroll’s words, “This will be an unforgettable afternoon, enjoyed with fellow dedicated supporters.” The audience size is estimated to be modest, with around 17,000 to 20,000 spectators, but the match is guaranteed to be a real nail-biter.
While there have been no major changes concerning the activities before and after the game, Western Province Rugby has perfected a formula over the past few seasons that extends beyond the game itself. Kroll guarantees a host of fun-filled and engaging activities organized by the sponsors to keep the fans entertained. He further encourages fans to utilize the free public transport made available to ticket holders to evade traffic congestion.
The MyCiTi Bus service offers a dependable route from the Civic Centre to the Stadium bus stop. For those who prefer to drive, parking in the City Centre is also a viable option. Western Province Rugby has added a few extra benefits for season ticket holders, such as easy access, exclusive stands, and post-match discounts. A partnership with Quay Four at the V&A Waterfront will grant season ticket holders a 10 percent discount on their orders, and a free beer will be given to the first 50.
The Summer Sundowner series will proceed with the Vodacom URC derbies opposing the Vodacom Bulls on the 23rd and Hollywoodbets Sharks on the 30th. The Investec Champions Cup match with the Sale Sharks on 13th January is another key date on the calendar.
Fans can buy tickets directly from the Stormers’ website with the gates opening at 1 pm and the match starting at 3 pm. Without a doubt, the DHL Stadium is poised to witness an afternoon jam-packed with sports, spirit, and fellowship.
