From the 11th to the 14th of November, the Cape Town Convention Centre transformed into a vibrant hub for technology aficionados. The leading team of the City of Cape Town, directed by Corporate Services Mayoral Council Member Alderman Theresa Uys, Executive Director of Corporate Services Ernest Sass, among other influential figures, took the lead in engaging with the surge of international delegations.

An International Assembly: Tech Experts and Diplomats

Delegations from Estonia and the USA, comprising tech experts, diplomats, and corporate leaders, contributed their knowledge and experiences, solidifying a global technology dialogue.

The Estonian delegation, guided by Sandra Särav from the Estonian Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications, immersed in progressive discussions on nurturing a digital platform for technology stakeholders. The productive chat illuminated the digital progress of Tallinn, recognized as one of the globe’s most digital cities. Alderman Uys, the Mayoral Committee Member for Corporate Services, voiced her excitement regarding future collaborations with Estonia. Her focus centered on the shared growth and the reciprocation of digital proficiency. The American delegation’s visit, which included professionals from the US Department of State and the US Embassy, fostered a unified perspective on the importance of apt government regulations concerning emerging technologies, notably artificial intelligence (AI). The conversation laid the groundwork for knowledge exchange concerning data, cybersecurity, and AI strategies, policies, and governance frameworks.

The US delegation commended the advancements made by the City of Cape Town, particularly praising the City app—an innovative service that allows residents to report civic issues conveniently. The recognition of Cape Town’s achievement was heightened by the fact that such a consolidated service isn’t widespread throughout the USA.
