Cape Town is preparing for an exciting street festival, the Regent Road Social, which will be held in the culturally rich Sea Point neighborhood. This free event, organized by the Regent Road Precinct Association, in collaboration with the City of Cape Town, Heineken, and Diageo, aims to bring families and friends together to celebrate South Africa’s diverse heritage and artistic spirit in a fun and engaging environment.

An Unforgettable Open-Air Celebration

On Sunday, 18 May 2023, from 12 pm to 10 pm, Regent Road will transform into a bustling hub of creativity, music, and gastronomic delight for all ages. The festival has been meticulously planned to be an unforgettable open-air celebration.

Immersion in a Vibrant Consortium of Art Galleries, Hotels, and Stores

As attendees stroll along Regent Road, they will be immersed in a vibrant consortium of art galleries, hotels, and stores, all pulsating with the rhythmic sounds of live music and street performers. Local restaurants and bars will extend their inviting atmosphere onto the sidewalks, allowing visitors to savor delicious food and drinks while enjoying the lively ambiance.

Abundant Entertainment Options

Throughout the 750-meter shopping precinct, two stages and DJ Boxes will feature an array of top local musicians, creating a thrilling soundtrack for the day’s festivities. Entertainment options will be abundant, with engaging activities for both young and old guests, as well as a variety of performance acts spread along the bustling thoroughfare.

Street Art Extravaganza

The Regent Road Social will also play host to a street art extravaganza, showcasing the creative talents of local artists who will paint eye-catching murals and portraits directly on the streets. Meanwhile, dancers will captivate the crowds with their exhilarating moves, and marimba acts will set toes tapping and hearts racing.

Sports and Salsa Dancing

For sports enthusiasts, screenings of the Monaco Grand Prix at 3 pm and the British Premiership final games at 5:30 pm will provide ample excitement. And for those eager to try something new, salsa dancing lessons will be offered on the street starting at 6:30 pm, allowing attendees to learn some new moves and join in the fun.

Fostering Social Cohesion and Diversity

The Regent Road Social aims to foster social cohesion and diversity, build community spirit within a safe space, and celebrate the arts as well as the rich cultural heritage of Sea Point and Cape Town. The event aims to support street vendors in trading more frequently and to demonstrate the value of creating more pedestrian-friendly areas within the city.
