A Winter Wonderland of Activities in Cape Town’s Libraries and Recreational Facilities

As the winter season approaches, the City of Cape Town’s libraries and recreational facilities have launched an exciting line-up of holiday programmes to keep young minds engaged during the school break. With a wide variety of activities planned for the next few weeks, children will have plenty of opportunities to stay active, learn new skills, and prepare for the upcoming school term.

Indoor Activities to Beat the Winter Blues

While outdoor adventures may not be ideal during winter, there are many indoor activities available to keep children occupied and help them build their confidence. According to Councillor Patricia van der Ross, Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, the City’s libraries and recreational facilities offer extensive programmes that allow youngsters to stay both mentally and physically active during the school holidays.

Libraries to Host a Range of Fun Activities

Cape Town’s libraries are preparing to host a range of exciting activities that go beyond traditional board games, arts and crafts, and movies. Young visitors can immerse themselves in the wonders of science through hands-on experiments or even learn a new skill such as knitting. The diverse line-up ensures that there is something for everyone to enjoy, regardless of their interests or abilities.

Recreation and Parks Department Offers Various Indoor and Outdoor Activities

The Recreation and Parks Department has crafted an impressive line-up of events encompassing various indoor and outdoor games, sports tournaments, and awareness programmes. These events cater to different age groups, ensuring that everyone can participate and have a fantastic time.

Keeping Children Constructively Occupied During the Break

Councillor Van der Ross encourages parents to take advantage of the holiday programmes to keep their children constructively occupied during the break. The wide range of exciting activities on offer will undoubtedly help chase away the winter blues and create lasting memories for children and their families.

Fine Free Week for Younger Visitors

In addition to the plethora of activity options, the City’s libraries are celebrating Youth Month by hosting a Fine Free Week for young people under the age of 17. From 26 June to 1 July, youngsters can return their overdue items without incurring any fines. This initiative serves as an additional incentive for children to visit their local libraries during the holiday break, explore new books and resources, and cultivate a love for lifelong learning.
