Absa Run Your City Cape Town 10K: A Celebration of Mother’s Day and Running Culture

On May 14th, 2023, the Absa Run Your City Cape Town 10K will be held in celebration of Mother’s Day and the eighth edition of the event. The race is set to showcase the beauty of Cape Town and its people, with local elite athletes competing against some of the world’s best on home turf. Not only is the race a thrilling competition, but it also offers an opportunity to unite the local and international running community and support the city’s economic growth.

The Event and its Benefits

The Absa Run Your City Cape Town 10K is expected to attract more than 10,000 participants, featuring stunning views of Table Mountain, refreshments, exciting activations, and world-class entertainment. Alderman JP Smith, the Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, expressed enthusiasm for the event, highlighting its numerous opportunities for Cape Town, including job creation, increased tourism, and support for local businesses.

“City Clean Up” Event

In preparation for the race, Capetonians are invited to join the event organizers, sponsors, and partners for a “City Clean Up” on May 13, 2023. The clean-up event is a fantastic way to showcase the city’s beauty and ensure that it is in pristine condition for the thousands of runners and spectators that will take to the streets the following day.

The Route and Road Closures

The Absa Run Your City Cape Town 10K will kick off at Woodbridge Island in Milnerton, taking runners along the coastline on Marine Drive before looping onto the N1 ramp and heading into the bustling city bowl, ultimately finishing on Lower Long Street. To accommodate the festivities, several road closures will be in effect on May 13th and 14th, and motorists are advised to plan their trips accordingly.

Parking and Transportation

Ample parking will be available near the Grand Parade and finish area. Participants are encouraged to park their vehicles and take the MyCiTi buses to the starting point at Woodbridge Island, Milnerton. The first bus departs from the Grand Parade at 05:30, with the last bus leaving for Milnerton at 07:40.
