Affordable Housing in North West: The Moses Kotane Community Residential Units

On September 15, 2023, the South African Human Settlements Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi and Deputy Minister Pam Tshwete made a visit to the Moses Kotane Community Residential Units (CRU) in North West. The CRU project is aimed at providing affordable rental housing for low-income earners. Representatives of the three spheres of government were also present at the event, held in Bojanala Platinum District. The primary aim of the visit was to assess the provincial performance in delivering affordable rental housing and decent accommodation.

An Exemplary Initiative within the Department of Human Settlements

The Moses Kotane CRU project includes 110 units, comprising of bachelor and two-bedroom accommodations. During the visit, both Minister Kubayi and Deputy Minister Tshwete presented keys to the new tenants. Acting Premier and MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements, and Traditional Affairs of North West, Nono Maloyi, accompanied the ministers at the event. The Moses Kotane CRU project is an exemplary initiative within the Department of Human Settlements’ housing programs, designed to offer secure and stable rental tenure for lower-income residents.

Regular Rotational Meeting (MINMEC)

After the handover ceremony, the Ministry, and Provincial MECs for Human Settlements convened for a regular rotational meeting (MINMEC) to discuss the department’s progress in achieving its set targets for the 2023/2024 financial year. These meetings aim to evaluate the pace of delivery against the department’s goals and objectives.
