The opening ceremony, a vibrant celebration of Africa, kickstarted the tournament, fueling the motivation for a thrilling 10-day competition. Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis extended a warm welcome to the participating teams, World Netball executives, and distinguished representatives from various countries. Cape Town is more than just a host city, as it is also a funding partner and ensures safety and security throughout the event.
Safety is a top priority during the tournament, with the City of Cape Town deploying various safety and security personnel. The tournament has already witnessed some exhilarating on-court action on its first day, and there is much more in store for the spectators. For those who are unable to secure tickets, the city has organized a Netball World Cup Fan Park outside the CTICC. Entry to the Fan Park is free, and visitors can enjoy daily games on big screens, live entertainment, netball exhibition games, a children’s corner, and daily giveaways. A food court with outdoor seating, snacks, hot beverages, and a beer garden is also available for guests.
In addition, the City encourages residents to enjoy the sport at a free Public Viewing Area (PVA) near them. Each PVA features seating, surround sound, and live uninterrupted streaming of the games, ensuring no disruptions due to load-shedding.
