BRICS Science, Technology, and Innovation Ministers Collaborate for a Sustainable Future

The South African Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation, Dr. Blade Nzimande, will host the Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) ministers from Brazil, Russia, India, and China in the Eastern Cape on August 3rd and 4th, 2023. This significant gathering is part of South Africa’s BRICS rotating presidency, whose theme this year is “BRICS and Africa: Partnership for Mutually Accelerated Growth, Sustainable Development, and Inclusive Multilateralism.”

The 11th BRICS STI Ministerial Meeting

The 11th BRICS STI Ministerial Meeting serves as a prelude to the 15th BRICS Summit, scheduled for August 2023. The BRICS Young Scientist Forum, held in Gqeberha from July 31st to August 2nd, offers a platform for young scientists and researchers from the BRICS countries to showcase their work and establish connections to tackle pressing global issues such as climate change.

The BRICS STI Senior Officials Meeting and Young Innovators Prize

On August 3rd, a BRICS STI Senior Officials Meeting will take place, allowing senior officials to exchange ideas and collaborate on strategies to address global challenges. Following the meeting, Minister Nzimande will host a gala dinner, during which he will present the Young Innovators Prize, a prestigious award recognizing the innovative efforts of young scientists from the BRICS countries. The Young Innovators Prize rewards groundbreaking ideas designed to benefit society.

The BRICS STI Ministerial Meeting

The BRICS STI Ministerial Meeting, on August 4th, will allow participating ministers to engage in discussions and share insights on how their respective countries can foster scientific, technological, and innovative advancements. The ultimate goal is to create a sustainable future for their citizens and the world. Following the conclusion of the meeting, Minister Nzimande will address the media and provide updates on the outcomes of the discussions.

Attend the Dinner and Photo Op

The media are invited to attend a Ministerial Dinner on August 3rd, from 19h00 to 21h30, at The Coachman Restaurant in Gqeberha. Additionally, a photo opportunity for the BRICS STI Ministerial Meeting will be held on August 4th at the Boardwalk Hotel and Conference Centre.
