On September 7, 2023, the vibrant community of Nyanga in Cape Town, South Africa, hosted the City’s Human Settlements Roadshow. The event brought together local residents, Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements Councillor Carl Pophaim and Human Settlements Directorate senior officials to tackle various human settlements-related concerns.
The primary focus of the roadshow is to provide direct services and resources to residents of the Cape Town metropolitan area. This initiative aims to create an inclusive and accessible environment for all residents to voice their concerns and find solutions.
Councillor Carl Pophaim emphasized the success of the initiative, stating, “The Human Settlements Roadshow has been well attended in the communities that we have reached thus far, and we are looking forward to assisting more residents as we make our way across the metro in the coming months.” The roadshow’s subsequent stops include Gugulethu, Crossroads, and Mamre, where officials will continue to provide assistance.
At each event, a team of experts assists residents in addressing various human settlements-related issues, such as new and historical title deeds, C3 notifications, specific projects, Housing Needs Register applications, tenancy management, affordable housing enquiries, and informal settlement queries.
The success of the roadshow is a testament to the power of community engagement and the importance of empowering citizens to take charge of their living situations. By bringing together local officials, experts, and residents, the roadshow creates a space for collaboration and progress.
