Cape Town is facing a water crisis. Large parts of the city will be impacted by disruptions today.

Due to today’s drill, water supplies will be disrupted throughout the City of Cape Town. This is associated with a 915mm diameter water supply and the Water and Sanitation Directorate.

Due to lower water pressure, there could be some disruption in the water supply in areas including Lotus River, Ottery, Parkwood Estate, Grassy Park and Fairways from 10am to 1pm.

One of the most important tasks in water resources is determining which areas need more attention and what precautions need to be taken. That’s exactly what Ethekwini (also the City of Durban) is doing right now. They are evaluating the impacts so they are better able to handle future water shortages,” said acting Mayor Siseko Mbandezi.

“This training exercise is part of a national initiative to support the planning teams in assessing the capability of the water supply network for re-routing of water supply in preparation for an actual shutdown, before making available and distribution.”

Head of operations in the Alfred Nzo district, Mbandezi, asked residents to store water securely for their household use during this period. He also asks people to ensure that all taps are closed to prevent water loss or damage when the supply is back on.

The counsellor apologized for any inconvenience caused and said the city needed to explore opportunities within their water supply network to benefit its consumers.
