The South African music industry is in mourning after the loss of rapper Constantinos Tsobanoglou, popularly known by his stage name Costa Titch. The 28-year-old performer collapsed while on stage during the Ultra Music Festival at the Nasrec Expo Centre in Johannesburg on Saturday, 11 March.
The loss has not only affected the music industry but also his family, fans, and the entire country. Costa Titch was a rising star in the music industry, and his music was loved by many, especially in his hometown Cape Town.
Costa Titch started as a backup dancer in the music industry before transitioning to music. He realized that he had reached the pinnacle of his dance career and wasn’t breaking through financially or fulfilling himself personally.
Costa Titch won Best Collaboration and Best Remix at the 2020 South African Hip Hop Awards for his remix of the hit track ‘Nkalakatha’ with Riky Rick and AKA. He recently signed with Senegalese-American rapper Akon’s Konvict Kulture record label, and the rapper had recently appeared on Costa’s hit song, ‘Big Flexa,’ in a remix.
In an interview with IOL, Costa stated that he collaborated with the record label to launch his career on a global scale.
The loss of Costa Titch has left the music industry and his fans in deep mourning. His family issued a statement expressing their grief and thanking emergency responders and everyone who was present in his last hours on earth.
The Tsobanoglou family thanked everyone who had supported their son and requested that they be given time and space to gather themselves during this difficult period.
