The National Football League (NFL) is set to bring its unique NFL Experience to Cape Town, South Africa, in September. The event, scheduled for the weekend of 16th and 17th September, marks a significant milestone in the NFL Africa program‘s commitment to nurturing the sport on the continent.
Taking place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CITCC), the NFL Experience promises an immersive encounter for fans. Participants can test their skills in interactive NFL football and NFL Flag activities, learn about the league’s rich history and indulge in official NFL merchandise. The weekend also features various attractions, including Madden NFL 24, Pro Era, and Wilson footballs, as well as authentic player jerseys and apparel.
In collaboration with ESPN Africa, the NFL is hosting a Viewing Party at the V&A Waterfront’s Amphitheatre on Sunday, 17th September. Fans can enjoy live entertainment from NFL legends and prominent South African personalities, along with a live screening of the second week’s NFL season game. Games and competitions are available with fantastic prizes.
Two-time Super Bowl winner and former New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora, leading the NFL’s expansion efforts in Africa, will grace the event. South Africa’s very own NFL legend, Gary Anderson, who played for 23 seasons, will also be present to welcome the NFL to his homeland.
Umenyiora expressed his excitement at seeing the NFL in South Africa, promising a “brilliant showcase of American Football in Cape Town for fans to enjoy.” Anderson also shared his pride in welcoming the NFL to South Africa for the first time. The NFL is committed to bringing the game closer to South African fans and building enthusiasm for the sport throughout the country.
