Cape Town’s Mobile Office and Basket of Services Bring Local Government Closer to Residents

The City of Cape Town is committed to making local government more accessible and improving the quality of life for its residents. Two initiatives have been deployed – the Mobile Office and Basket of Services – to provide residents with convenient opportunities to receive assistance from City officials representing various departments.

Mobile Office in Ikwezi Park

On Tuesday, 16 May 2023, from 09:30 to 13:30, the Mobile Office will be stationed at the Blue Community Hall in Ikwezi Park. Residents can engage with the City on non-emergency matters such as rates, sewage, electricity, water, refuse collections, and other account enquiries. The City’s Customer Relations Department’s mobile team will be available to assist residents in logging queries and service requests electronically.

Basket of Services at Lentegeur’s Civic Centre

On Friday, 19 May 2023, from 09:30 to 15:00, Lentegeur’s Civic Centre on Merrydale Ave will host the Basket of Services. This event will feature a range of departments, including Customer Relations, Human Resources, Social Development, Economic Growth, Health, Safety and Security, and the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP). Residents can address various needs, from account queries to bursary, internship, and apprenticeship opportunities.

In addition to account-related issues, the Basket of Services event will provide residents with information about primary health care services, traffic and law enforcement services, economic growth initiatives, and more. The EPWP will assist jobseekers and register unemployed youth in the jobseekers database, ensuring eligibility for local job opportunities.

Importance of Accessibility

The City of Cape Town recognizes that for its residents to fully benefit from local government services, these services need to be available and accessible. By bringing the Mobile Office to Ikwezi Park and hosting the Basket of Services at Lentegeur’s Civic Centre, the City is demonstrating its commitment to meeting the needs of its residents and addressing essential concerns that might otherwise be left unattended.

Call to Take Advantage of Services

Alderman Theresa Uys, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Corporate Services, has encouraged residents to take advantage of the services and attend the events at Ikwezi Park’s Blue Community Hall and Lentegeur Civic Centre. Uys has reminded those interested in participating to bring their ID or municipal accounts to facilitate the process.

The Mobile Office and Basket of Services initiatives exemplify the City’s dedication to bringing its services closer to residents, bridging the gap between local government and the communities it serves. These programs have the potential to significantly improve the overall well-being of Ikwezi Park and Lentegeur residents. As the City of Cape Town continues to prioritize accessibility and convenience, it is positioning itself as a responsive and responsible local government, determined to serve its communities effectively.
