The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has opened nominations for the 2023 National Teaching Awards (NTA) to honor and recognize outstanding educators who have made exceptional contributions to the field of education. This prestigious event encourages all teachers to showcase their passion and achievements by submitting their nominations before the closing date on July 24th.
The NTA is an annual event that seeks to celebrate and recognize the unwavering commitment of teachers to their students and the field of education. David Maynier, the Provincial Minister for Education, emphasizes the significance of this event in acknowledging the hard work and dedication of educators throughout the year. Previous winners have gone on to achieve remarkable accomplishments within the department, and Maynier urges all teachers to participate and seize this opportunity.
The 2023 NTA program is a two-stage process that consists of a provincial awards ceremony and a national awards ceremony. The provincial awards ceremony will take place on August 25th, where the best educators in Western Cape will be awarded. The provincial winners will advance to the national awards ceremony scheduled for October 2023, in celebration of Teacher’s Month.
Teachers have the chance to compete in 14 categories that encompass different educational levels and areas of expertise. These categories include Excellence in Grade R Teaching, Primary and Secondary School Teaching and Leadership, Excellence in Special Needs Teaching and Leadership, Excellence in Teaching Mathematics, Natural Sciences, Physical Sciences, Technology-Enhanced Teaching and Learning, Kader Asmal Lifetime Achievement Award, and National Best Teacher Award.
To ensure fairness and diversity in the selection process, the WCED encourages teachers, principals, governing body members, and district officials to submit nominations. The Nomination and Information Guide, accessible on the WCED website, outlines eligibility criteria and guidelines for nominations. The awards are open to all teachers working in registered public sector schools across Western Cape.
The 2023 National Teaching Awards serve as a celebration of the exceptional educators in the Western Cape and as an opportunity for them to share their innovative teaching methods and success stories. Their dedication to shaping young minds and fostering a love for learning has a profound impact on the future of the region and the country as a whole.
As the nomination deadline approaches, the WCED anticipates an array of outstanding submissions, highlighting the best and brightest in the education sector. These awards symbolize the utmost appreciation and admiration for those who dedicate their lives to shaping the future through education. The 2023 National Teaching Awards will ultimately showcase the inspiring, transformative power of passionate educators in the Western Cape and beyond.
