Celebrating Women’s Month with a Slew of Empowering Activities in Cape Town

The Community Services and Health Directorate of the City of Cape Town has organized a series of events to celebrate Women’s Month in August. The month-long celebration is designed to recognize the valuable contributions of women in society and empower them through various activities.

Reflection and Celebration

Councillor Patricia van der Ross, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, highlights the significance of Women’s Month as a time for reflection and celebration. According to her, August is an opportunity to commemorate the immense sacrifice of women who went before us and celebrate the milestones and extraordinary roles of women in society.

A Plethora of Events

The directorate has organized a multitude of special events throughout August to empower and inform women of all ages. Councillor Van der Ross encourages women to participate in these programs to gain knowledge and become empowered. She encourages women to join the thousands of women leading the charge in their communities.

Program Highlights

Events for Women’s Month in Cape Town include activities at Adriaanse Clinic, Valhalla Park Clinic, and Elsies River Clinic on the 8th. On the 9th of August, a series of gatherings will take place at St Vincent Clinic and Delft South Clinic, focusing on services for adolescents and young women who have experienced trauma, including gender-based violence. SDECD will host 150 women aged 14-35 years old, participating in organizational projects from across the city.

Women’s Month celebrations will also include a 5km Seniors Walk for Women and Golden Games on the 26th of August. These events aim to encourage elderly women to stay active, fit, and connected to their communities.
