City of Cape Town Supports Annual Suidoosterfees

The City of Cape Town is proud to support once again the annual Suidoosterfees, which will take place from April 26 to May 1, 2023, at the Artscape. This festival has become a major cultural event on the Cape Town calendar and highlights the best of the region’s arts and culture scene.

Diverse Programme for All Tastes

This year’s festival promises to be a jam-packed event with diverse performances catering to all tastes. The program will include drama, dance, music, visual art, conversations, and comedy.

Festival Highlights

The festival will kick off on April 26 with the Afskop-konsert, a unique music production in collaboration with the Cape Town Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. This production will honor founding member Professor Jakes Gerwel and former president Nelson Mandela.

To celebrate 20 years of cultural diversity and inclusivity, the Suidoosterfees has a line-up of special events. These include 20 actors in 10 short dialogues and a “Laugh more than 20 times” production. In addition, the music program will feature 20 Musical Moments with performers such as André Schwartz, Lynelle Kenned, Emo Adams, Pierre van Heerden, and Niël Rademan, among others.

Contributing to Cape Town’s Economy and Job Creation

The City of Cape Town is proud to partner with the Suidoosterfees as it promotes all facets of creativity and boosts the region’s economy and job creation. The festival also provides development opportunities for upcoming artists, musicians, writers, teachers, and directors, making theatre and arts more accessible and affordable.

Celebrating Local Communities and Heritage

The festival is an opportunity for local and rural communities to participate in nurturing their talents and celebrating their rich diversity of arts and culture. It also serves as an essential platform for promoting Cape Town’s cultural heritage to visitors.

Festival Information

The Suidoosterfees’ complete program is available on their website, and tickets can be purchased through Computicket. Festival goers can park in the basement of the Cape Town Civic Centre.

Conclusion

In celebrating its 20th anniversary, the Suidoosterfees will once again showcase the best in the arts and culture scene in Cape Town. The City of Cape Town remains committed to supporting the festival and promoting the region’s rich diversity of arts and culture.
