Cricket South Africa set to honor its cricket stars in 2022-23 awards ceremony

Cricket South Africa (CSA) is gearing up to celebrate the exceptional performances of its cricket stars during the 2022-23 season. The annual awards ceremony will be held on July 7 at Vodaworld in Midrand. The event marks the first in-person ceremony since the COVID-19 lockdowns. CSA will honor several pathway awards alongside the main awards. The ceremony will be broadcasted on SuperSport.

Men’s nominees

Temba Bavuma, Aiden Markram, Anrich Nortje, and David Miller are the prominent nominees in the men’s section. Proteas Men Test and One-Day International (ODI) captain, Bavuma, has been nominated in four categories, including the SA Men’s Player of the Year, ODI, and Test Player of the Year. T20 International (T20) captain Markram, Nortje, and Miller are also in contention for the SA Men’s Player of the Year award.

Women’s nominees

The women’s section features Nonkululeko Mlaba, Marizanne Kapp, Laura Wolvaardt, and the recently retired Shabnim Ismail as the top contenders. Ismail, who recently announced her retirement after an illustrious career, has been nominated for four awards, including the SA Women’s Player of the Year. Kapp has earned inclusion in the Women’s T20 and ODI International Player of the Year categories, while Mlaba is a nominee for the T20 Player of the Year.

Domestic contenders

The domestic scene saw competitive and entertaining encounters last season, with Beyers Swanepoel, Bamanye Xenxe, Stefan Tait, Jordan Hermann, Ryan Rickelton, and Tony De Zorzi among contenders in key categories.

Judging panel

The CSA Awards’ judging panel comprised Ashwell Prince, Crystal Arnold, Patrick Moroney, Firdose Moonda, Khanyiso Tshwaku, and Andrew Samson.

CEO’s excitement

CSA Chief Executive Officer Pholetsi Moseki expressed his excitement about the in-person event and the special plans in place for the ceremony. He said, “It truly has been a summer to celebrate, with the progress and passion of this past season exemplified by the remarkable achievement of the Proteas Women as they won the hearts of South Africans during an incredible T20 World Cup campaign.”

Celebrating dedication and determination

Through these prestigious awards, CSA aims to celebrate those who have inspired the next generation with their efforts on and off the field and upheld CSA’s vision and mission. As the world of South African cricket comes together on July 7th, the CSA Awards will serve as a testament to the dedication and determination of its talented cricketers.
