Deputy Minister Makhotso Sotyu Leads Youth Month Outreach Programme in De Doorns

Deputy Minister of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment, Ms. Makhotso Sotyu, is spearheading a Youth Month Outreach Programme in De Doorns, Western Cape, to promote environmental awareness and encourage eco-friendly practices among the younger generation. The event, which is happening on June 22, 2023, is themed “Accelerating Collaborations and Opportunities to Improve the Lives of the Youth.”

Aims of the Outreach Programme

As part of the Departmental Youth and Environment Month activities, the outreach programme aims to inspire learners about the significance of environmental science and foster a passion for environmental conservation. The Deputy Minister hopes to educate and engage local communities, empowering them to take charge of their environment.

Donations and Career Day

Ms. Sotyu will donate school shoes, sanitary towels, school desks, and other essential materials to schools and indigent learners in need, commemorating the event. She will also host a school career day with a focus on environmental science, introducing young learners to various career paths within this essential field. By doing so, Ms. Sotyu hopes to encourage future generations to become champions of their environment and contribute to preserving our planet for years to come.

Media Invitation

Members of the media are invited to attend the event at De Doorns Primary School on the 22nd of June, giving them the opportunity to witness firsthand the positive impact this outreach programme is making on the lives of young people in the community.

Importance of Environmental Education for Youth

Ms. Makhotso Sotyu’s initiative serves as a much-needed reminder of the importance of investing in the environmental education of our youth. By equipping the younger generation with knowledge about environmental conservation and providing them with the resources to excel in their education, we are taking a crucial step towards building a more sustainable future for our planet.

Empowering Young People

The Youth Month Outreach Programme in De Doorns stands as an example of how fostering collaboration and creating opportunities for young people can significantly improve their lives, as well as the environment around them. As we celebrate Youth Month, let us remember the critical role that young people play in protecting and preserving our environment and continue to support initiatives that empower and inspire them.
