Deputy Minister Pinky Kekana’s Visit to Tsantsabane Local Municipality

In the world of politics and governance, Deputy Minister Pinky Kekana’s dedication to public service is exemplary. As the Deputy Minister in the Presidency responsible for Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation, Kekana is responsible for ensuring that government initiatives are effective. One such initiative is her recent follow-up visit to Tsantsabane Local Municipality in the Northern Cape Province on June 27, 2023.

Background

Kekana’s first visit to the area was in October 2022, shortly after the devastating floods that swept through the region in April 2022. The disaster caused significant damage to 75 households and 76 shacks, leaving several roads in desperate need of repair. During her visit, Kekana monitored the progress of provincial and district interventions made in response to the disaster and discussed strategies to prevent such occurrences in the future.

Infrastructure Improvements and Humanitarian Support

During Kekana’s initial visit, she identified crucial measures that needed to be implemented, including the construction of adequate road drainage systems and a steel bridge. These infrastructure improvements would ensure better stormwater flow and ease access to main roads. Additionally, humanitarian support was initiated for affected households and shacks, providing essential aid such as replacement furniture, clothing donations, food parcels, and school uniforms. Ward 3 suffered the most from the flood damage out of the seven wards in Tsantsabane.

Follow-Up Visit

Kekana’s follow-up visit to Tsantsabane was accompanied by Deputy Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy Dr. Nobuhle Nkabane, the office of the Premier, the District office, MECs, and the local municipality. The visit aimed to assess the progress of service delivery issues that were previously outlined in April 2022.

Public Service Dedication

Kekana’s follow-up visit to Tsantsabane demonstrates her commitment to the welfare of her constituents. By conducting follow-up visits to disaster-stricken regions and ensuring appropriate relief measures are implemented, she exemplifies the dedication and diligence required in the face of adversity. By inviting scrutiny and fostering an open dialogue about the progress made, Kekana demonstrates a willingness to engage with the public and respond to their concerns.
