Deputy Minister Reginah Mhaule Leads Inter-Departmental Campaign in KwaMashu

On August 31, Dr. Reginah Mhaule, the Deputy Minister of Basic Education, spearheaded the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) leg of the Inter-Departmental Campaign on the Prevention of Violence, Bullying, Gender-Based Violence, Learner Pregnancy, as well as Drug and Substance Abuse in schools. The event took place at the KwaMashu Christian Centre in KwaMashu, just outside Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.

Collaborative Efforts to Create Safer School Communities

The campaign’s proceedings were directed by KZN Education MEC Mbali Frazer and included an elite delegation committed to promoting safety in schools. His Majesty the King Misuzulu KaZwelithini, KZN Premier Hon. Nomusa Dube-Ncube, Deputy Ministers of Justice and Correctional Services Nkosi Phatekile Holomisa, Deputy Minister of Health Dr. Sibongiseni Dlomo, and Deputy Minister Njabulo Nzuza from Home Affairs were among the distinguished attendees.

The Inter-Departmental Campaign aimed to address violence and social ills not only in schools but also in the surrounding communities, uniting leaders from various sectors and encouraging them to work together in creating secure learning environments across the country.

Joint Efforts to Strengthen Safety Measures

The day’s activities included speeches and discussions, as well as a Jamboree where partner departments offered various services, including career guidance, health services, and assistance from Home Affairs and Social Development. The joint efforts of these departments represent a crucial step towards strengthening safety measures in schools and providing a nurturing environment for students.

The participation of high-level delegates highlights the importance and urgency of tackling these issues. Their presence and contributions to the campaign demonstrate the commitment of various government sectors in working together to find solutions and implement effective measures to ensure the safety and well-being of students and school communities.

Foster a Sense of Unity and Shared Responsibility

The collaborative nature of this campaign fosters a sense of unity and shared responsibility among different government departments and community leaders. By working together, it is possible to overcome the challenges faced by schools and create a safer, more supportive environment for learners.

Continued Efforts to Address Issues Affecting School Communities

The KwaMashu event is just one example of the continued efforts to address issues affecting school communities in South Africa. As this campaign and similar initiatives gain momentum, it is essential to recognize the value of inter-departmental collaboration in creating a brighter future for the nation’s youth and ensuring their success in the years to come.

Creating Safer Learning Environments

The impact of this Inter-Departmental Campaign in KwaMashu will hopefully serve as an inspiration for other regions, encouraging them to take proactive measures in addressing the issues faced by schools and their communities. By joining forces, government departments and community leaders can work together to create safer learning environments, promoting the overall well-being and success of learners across the country.
