Deputy President to Visit KwaZulu-Natal Province

Deputy President Paul Mashatile has scheduled a two-day oversight visit to KwaZulu-Natal Province on 18 and 19 May 2023. The visit will focus on engaging with stakeholders in various sectors, including education, agriculture, commerce, and industry, to promote collaboration and address key issues faced by communities in these sectors.

Day One

On the first day of the visit, Deputy President Mashatile will oversee outreach programs in the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality and uMgungundlovu District Municipality. The focus will be on the implementation of the District Development Model (DDM), a strategic initiative aimed at enhancing municipal functionality and addressing community challenges through effective coordination between different spheres of government.

The Deputy President will also visit the Ntshongweni Catalytic Project, an innovative smart city project currently under construction between Durban and Pietermaritzburg. The smart city aims to provide local communities with essential work skills, contributing to job creation and economic growth.

Day Two

On the second day of the visit, Deputy President Mashatile will chair the Human Resource Development Council meeting at the uMgungundlovu TVET College, Plessislaer Campus, in Pietermaritzburg. The college has established partnerships with various government departments, municipalities, non-governmental organizations, and private sector companies to fulfill its mandate.

During the oversight visit, Deputy President Mashatile will be accompanied by prominent figures such as Dr. Blade Nzimande, Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation; Ms. Thoko Didiza, Minister of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development; Ms. Noxolo Kiviet, Minister of Public Service and Administration; Deputy Ministers Mr. Buti Manamela and Ms. Nomalungelo Gina; KwaZulu-Natal Premier Ms. Nomusa Dube-Ncube; Gauteng Premier Mr. Panyaza Lesufi; North West Premier Mr. Bushy Maape; members of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Executive Council; Municipal Mayors; and senior government officials.

The media is invited to cover the visit, with programs on both days highlighting Deputy President Mashatile’s engagements. The visit aims to foster stronger relationships between stakeholders and the government, address key concerns, and ensure the effective implementation of vital programs and initiatives in the respective municipalities.
