Edinburgh Rugby Appoints Sean Everitt as New Head Coach for 2023/24 Season

Edinburgh Rugby has recently announced the appointment of Sean Everitt as the new head coach for the upcoming 2023/24 season. Everitt is an experienced South African coach, who brings over a decade of expertise from his time with the Sharks organization.

A Skilled Man-Manager with a Proven Track Record

Everitt has an impressive track record as an attack and backline coach, having coached at the Sharks from 2007 to 2022. During his tenure as the head coach, the Sharks competed in various leagues such as Super Rugby, the URC, EPCR Champions Cup, and the Currie Cup, with two Finals appearances in 2020/21 and 2021/22. He managed some of South African rugby’s biggest names, such as Siya Kolisi, Lukhanyo Am, and Pat Lambie.

Joining the Edinburgh Squad

Everitt will join the Edinburgh squad this month, augmenting a coaching group that features Stevie Lawrie, Michael Todd, and newly promoted Rob Chrystie. As Senior Coach, Everitt will lead the club’s attack strategy, with Chrystie lending support.

Edinburgh Rugby’s New Coaching Structure

Edinburgh Rugby’s new coaching structure will also involve Steve Diamond continuing as Lead Rugby Consultant during the pre-season programme. This arrangement aims to facilitate a smooth transition of leadership as Everitt assumes his new position in Scotland’s capital.

Everitt’s Excitement for the Fresh Opportunity

Expressing his excitement for this fresh opportunity with Edinburgh Rugby, Everitt remarked, “I’m honoured and delighted to be afforded a coaching opportunity at Edinburgh Rugby. Edinburgh has a proud history and I’m privileged to be part of their successful journey toward becoming a top club in Europe.” He also expressed gratitude to Scottish Rugby CEO Mark Dodson, Scottish Rugby Performance Director Jim Mallinder, and Edinburgh Rugby Managing Director Douglas Struth for their confidence in his coaching abilities, and shared his family’s enthusiasm for their upcoming life in Edinburgh.

An Exciting New Chapter

This appointment signifies an exciting new chapter for Edinburgh Rugby, with Everitt’s wealth of experience and proven track record promising to invigorate the team’s performance and elevate its standing in European rugby. As the 2023/24 season approaches, anticipation builds for the dynamic coach’s impact on the beloved Scottish club.
