Embracing Winter’s Golden Hues: Boschendal Citrus Festival 2023

The Boschendal estate, nestled within the beautiful Winelands, invites guests to experience authentic farm activities during the highly-anticipated Boschendal Citrus Festival from 15th June to 30th July. This festival celebrates the abundance of the estate’s sustainably-farmed citrus fruit.

Citrus Picking Experience

Guests can participate in the Citrus Picking Experience, where they can traverse the historic orchards and handpick fresh citrus with the guidance of the expert farming team. The experience costs R80 per person, includes a bottle of water and 1kg of citrus to take home, with extra fruit available at R25 per kilogram. Booking is essential as spaces are limited.

Morning Market

The morning market offers a selection of citrus-inspired cuisine, award-winning Boschendal wines, and various clothing and jewelry stalls. Younger visitors can enjoy tractor rides and face painting, with free entrance for all.

Squeeze, Zest, and Preserve Workshop

The Squeeze, Zest, and Preserve Workshop on 22nd and 29th July will teach guests how to transform farm-fresh citrus into an array of enticing products, such as glühwein, marmalade, and cordial. Hosted by Brenda’s Preserves, the workshop costs R950 per person and includes all ingredients, a snack, welcome drink, and a take-home gift. There is a limit of 30 people per class, so timely booking is recommended.

Citrus Masterclass

The Citrus Masterclass is an exclusive chef demonstration and five-course lunch hosted by Boschendal’s Executive Chef Eric Bulpitt. Attendees will gain unparalleled insight into crafting a seasonal, citrus-inspired meal with ingredients sourced from the estate’s orchards. Held on 1st and 29th July, the intimate event includes a five-course meal, Boschendal wine pairings, and a citrus-themed gift. Limited to ten guests per class, the cost is R1800 per person, and booking is indispensable.

Long Table Lunch

As the Citrus Festival reaches its zenith, a Long Table Lunch will be held on 30th July, where guests can savor a sumptuous three-course menu inspired by the year’s finest harvest flavors. Limited to 150 people, bookings are essential, with the cost being R950 per person, including a special keepsake to commemorate the occasion. A cashless bar will be available for all beverages.
