The Western Cape Provincial Treasury has launched an initiative to cultivate the talents of young minds and address critical skills gaps in Economics, Accounting, Finance, and Auditing. Provincial Minister of Finance and Economic Opportunities, Mireille Wenger, spearheads this program and has opened applications for the 2024 academic year.
This ambitious initiative aims to foster a passion for the study of Economics, Accounting, Auditing, and Data Science among the youth. The Western Cape’s Provincial Treasury bursaries offer an opportunity for Grade 12 learners, post- and undergraduate students to carve out careers in various fields.
To qualify for a full-time bursary, applicants must be South African citizens residing in the Western Cape, aged between 17 and 35 years, and have obtained an average score of 65% or above in their previous year of study. Additionally, postgraduate applicants should have already obtained a B. Degree in one or more of the targeted fields of study. They must not be receiving any other bursaries or state funding.
The deadline for submissions is set for 15 September 2023. Prospective applicants can apply through the Provincial Treasury website, where the process has been made seamless and user-friendly.
This initiative highlights the Western Cape Government’s steadfast commitment to creating pathways for young people to acquire the skills they need to excel in their chosen careers. The government’s new economic action plan, ‘Growth For Jobs,’ focuses on aligning the needs of businesses with available skills programs to boost the region’s economy.
In conclusion, the Western Cape’s Provincial Treasury bursaries for the 2024 academic year represent a remarkable opportunity for young individuals to pursue their dreams and ambitions. By investing in the education and personal growth of the youth, the region aims to address the skills shortage in vital fields while fostering a thriving economic landscape that benefits all.
