Empowering Youth in North West Province Through Arts and Culture

The North West Provincial Legislature is set to host the Youth Sectoral Parliament on June 30th, 2023 at Brits White Hall in Madibeng Local Municipality. The event’s objective is to accelerate the economic emancipation of young people in North West Province through Arts and Culture. The gathering aims to evaluate the progress of programs designed to accelerate economic emancipation for the province, strengthen oversight and accountability on youth-related issues, and promote and advocate for the support of young artists and performers.

Supporting Young Artists and Performers

The event is designed to showcase the significance of arts and culture in empowering young people and contributing to the economy. The South African Arts and Culture Youth Forum and the Department of Sports, Arts, Culture, and Recreation will present various focus areas. The topics to be discussed include the benefits young artists and performers gained from the COVID-19 Relief Fund, the role of Mmabana Foundation in performing arts education to empower impoverished youth in the province, the challenges and achievements in the arts and culture industry, and the support received from the government.

Fostering Economic Emancipation

The North West Provincial Legislature believes that the Youth Parliament 2023 should foster economic emancipation of young people by using their talents to create new businesses. This approach is vital for natural growth in the country, as new ventures infuse life and a spirit of potential into the economy. Representatives from the Office of the Premier, provincial departments, and municipalities, along with 30 young people per district from political parties and youth structures, will attend the sectoral parliament.

Collaboration for Economic Growth

This event underscores the importance of collaboration between the government, educational institutions, and various organizations in nurturing the arts and culture sector. By working together, these stakeholders create a supportive ecosystem that encourages young artists and performers to pursue their passions and contribute to the nation’s economic growth.

Policy and Strategy Development

The discussions and presentations at the Youth Sectoral Parliament will contribute to a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities young artists face in their careers. Knowing these obstacles and opportunities will enable policymakers and other stakeholders to craft more effective strategies and initiatives that support the youth’s economic emancipation through arts and culture.

The Youth Sectoral Parliament is an important step towards empowering young people in the province through arts and culture. By providing a platform for dialogue and collaboration, this event will showcase the importance of nurturing talent and fostering economic growth, leading to a brighter future for the youth of the North West Province. The event will be live-streamed on the North West Provincial Legislature’s Facebook page and other social media platforms like YouTube Channel.
