Empowering Youth: Nasi iSpani Job Fair in Gauteng

On June 16th, 2023, Youth Day, Kedibone Diale-Tlabela, the Gauteng MEC for Transport and Logistics, will oversee the Nasi iSpani job fair application process in Katlehong and Tembisa. This initiative by the Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG) celebrates the 47th anniversary of the June 16, 1976 youth uprising and focuses on “Promoting sustainable livelihoods and resilience of young people for a better tomorrow.”

Providing Job Opportunities for the Youth

To combat rising youth unemployment in Gauteng, the GPG is intensifying its efforts to provide job opportunities. A range of funded positions from cleaners and drivers to medical officers and chief financial officers is being advertised. Unemployed individuals across Gauteng can apply at designated sites by submitting their curriculum vitae (CV) and a signed Z83 form.

Making the Application Process More Efficient

To make the application process more efficient, the GPG encourages applicants to create profiles on www.jobs.gauteng.gov.za beforehand. This exemplifies the government’s commitment to empowering the youth and promoting sustainable livelihoods by addressing the unemployment crisis.

Two Application Sites

Two application sites have been set up for the event. The first site is Rabasotho Hall in Tembisa, open from 08h00-12h00. The second site is DH Williams Hall in Katlehong, open from 12h00-15h30. The media has been invited to cover the event, ensuring widespread publicity for the initiative.

Building a Better Future

The Nasi iSpani job fair highlights the importance of sustainable livelihoods in empowering the youth and building a better future. By providing access to a variety of job opportunities in diverse fields, the GPG seeks to narrow the unemployment gap while fostering resilience and growth among young people.

The initiative also encourages applicants to develop a deeper understanding of the various job roles, which in turn, helps them make informed career choices. In addition, the job fair aims to strengthen the sense of community among the youth while promoting collaboration and networking.

Historical Reference

The June 16, 1976 youth uprising in Soweto was a turning point in the South African struggle for democracy. Students protested against the imposition of Afrikaans as the medium of instruction in schools and faced brutal repression by the government. Today, the Youth Day celebration and the Nasi iSpani job fair pay tribute to the resilience and determination of young people who fought for change.

Fostering a Sense of Responsibility

The significance of this event, held on Youth Day, is manifold. Not only does it provide an opportunity for young people to find employment, but it also serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by the youth in the past. Through this initiative, the GPG aims to foster a sense of responsibility and commitment to nation-building among the younger generation.

In conclusion, the Nasi iSpani job fair demonstrates the Gauteng Provincial Government’s dedication to addressing the pressing issue of youth unemployment. By commemorating the events of June 16, 1976, and promoting sustainable livelihoods, the GPG is taking a step forward in empowering the youth and building a better future for all.
