To address the pressing issue of gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF), key stakeholders are coming together to host a collaborative webinar. The Government Communication and Information System (GCIS), the Agape Youth Movement, and the conveners of Pillar 2 of the National Strategic Plan for the End Gender-Based Violence and Femicide are working together to educate young people on their role in preventing GBVF in their communities.
The upcoming event, scheduled for July 25, 2023, aims to raise awareness and instill leadership values in the youth to prevent GBVF. This is a crucial initiative given the increasing prevalence of GBVF and the significant role young people can play in preventing future incidents.
The webinar, which will take place on the Zoom platform, is open to the media to increase awareness of the topic and the youth’s role in mitigating GBVF. The live streaming link on YouTube will enable those who cannot attend the event in person to participate.
Together, the GCIS, Agape Youth Movement, and Pillar 2 conveners aim to empower young individuals to take responsibility and become agents of change in their communities. This proactive approach can create future leaders in eradicating GBVF, highlighting the importance of collaboration to tackle social issues.
GBVF has far-reaching repercussions on individuals, families, and communities, perpetuating a cycle of violence that affects future generations. Survivors often experience psychological and emotional trauma, necessitating breaking the cycle.
By involving young people in the conversation, this initiative seeks to develop a more empathetic and responsible generation aware of the impact of their actions. The webinar will provide an opportunity for youth to learn from experts in the field, equipping them with the necessary knowledge and skills to take decisive action against GBVF in their communities.
In conclusion, the collaborative webinar by the GCIS, Agape Youth Movement, and Pillar 2 conveners is a positive step toward preventing GBVF. Empowering the youth and fostering a more responsible generation contributes to developing a society free from gender-based violence. This collaboration is a testament to the power of working together to achieve a common goal.
