The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) is reminding vehicle owners to renew their licences on time to avoid penalties. With over a million motor vehicle licences expiring in September, the RTMC is urging owners to act promptly.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, several extensions were granted for motor vehicle licence expiry dates. This has resulted in a significant number of renewals that fall between August and December. In particular, 1,049,412 motor vehicle licences are due for renewal by the end of September.
To assist vehicle owners, a 21-day grace period is available after the expiry date for renewals without additional costs. However, after this period, penalties for late renewal will be charged.
To streamline the renewal process, the RTMC is sending email and SMS reminders to owners whose motor vehicle licences are due to expire each month. Vehicle owners are encouraged to update their email and telephone contact details on the online portal at online.natis.gov.za. This portal offers a convenient and cost-effective method of licence renewal.
Owners can renew their licences and have them delivered within three to five business days through the same portal. To take advantage of this hassle-free method, owners are urged to register their profiles on the portal through a simple five-step process. Those who have already registered can finalize the renewal in less than 10 minutes.
To make the process even smoother, the RTMC is emailing reminders with MVL1 forms attached. Owners can fill out the form online and make the necessary payment from the comfort of their homes. The new motor vehicle licence will then be sent by courier within three to five days. This digital approach eliminates long queues and saves time at physical renewal locations.
Through these proactive steps, the RTMC is committed to providing efficient services for vehicle owners. By utilizing online resources and offering convenience, the corporation ensures that motorists can easily comply with renewals and avoid unnecessary penalties.
In a rapidly evolving world, organizations need to embrace digital solutions to stay relevant and efficient. The RTMC’s efforts to simplify the motor vehicle licence renewal process highlight the importance of adapting to technological advancements while putting the needs of the public first.
