FAME Week Africa is an annual event held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC), providing a platform for emerging filmmakers to showcase their work. Supported by the City of Cape Town, the week-long festival is a hub of film, arts, music, and entertainment, attracting both local and international creatives.
As part of the festival, Film Cape Town provides eight students from various film institutions in Cape Town with the opportunity to participate in FAME Week Africa. These students, hailing from institutions such as the University of Cape Town, AFDA, and the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, will present short films they have created over three days.
The initiative aims to promote artistic growth and social engagement, creating a space for Cape Town’s diverse pool of talent, including actors, crew members, and producers. By financially supporting the festival, the City ensures that emerging filmmakers receive the exposure they deserve.
FAME Week Africa has established itself as an essential event for both African and international creatives, offering networking opportunities, meetings, screenings, and conferences. The festival combines film, art, media, and entertainment into one immersive experience, allowing industry professionals and artists to connect and learn from one another.
Running concurrently with FAME Week Africa, the Cape Town International Animation Festival stands as the largest dedicated African animation event. Its diverse program caters to a wide range of interests and tastes, providing a space for animation professionals and enthusiasts to come together.
From September 7 to 9, FAME Week Africa will join forces with the Realness Institute to host the inaugural FAME Shorts Film Festival at the Labia. This partnership further emphasizes the festival’s commitment to nurturing the talents of emerging filmmakers.
In 2022, FAME Week Africa drew over 5,000 visitors, 80 exhibitors, and representation from 37 different countries. This impressive turnout is a testament to the festival’s growing prominence on the global stage.
FAME Week Africa’s ongoing success is a beacon of hope for aspiring filmmakers, shining a light on their unique stories and the power of their craft. With its emphasis on talent development, networking, and artistic exchange, the festival offers a platform for creative individuals to thrive and make their mark on the world.
