This expansion is not just extending its reach but also contributing to the development of Zimbabwe’s industrial hub, Bulawayo.

Fastjet, Zimbabwe’s privately-owned airline, is set to expand its services between Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport and Bulawayo’s Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport, with a third daily flight starting from November 1st. This aims to enhance connectivity and stimulate the local economy, as well as boosting Zimbabwe’s tourism sector. Fastjet is committed to cultivating a reputation for reliability and outstanding service, offering services that rival those of full-service airlines.

Fueling Growth Through Strategic Expansion

As ambitious as a peregrine falcon in its hunt, Fastjet, Zimbabwe’s privately-owned airline, is preparing to expand its reach. The airline’s management has revealed plans to strengthen its services between the bustling Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport and Bulawayo’s Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport. Starting November 1st, Fastjet will introduce a third flight frequency between these two vibrant cities, enhancing its flight operations from two to three daily flights.

Bulawayo, recognized as Zimbabwe’s industrial heartland, teems with businesses. However, its importance extends beyond that. The city’s geographical positioning makes it a prime gateway to a multitude of major tourist attractions. Its close proximity to notable sites such as Matopos National Park and the Khami Ruins, Zimbabwe’s second largest stone-built monument, both World Heritage sites, makes it an attractive hub for leisure travelers.

Nunurai Ndawana, the spokesperson for Fastjet Zimbabwe, echoed this sentiment, stating, “Our primary focus is enhancing the connectivity to Bulawayo. We are constantly exploring the market to determine ways we can improve our customer services.” This clearly outlines the airline’s mission to foster both business and recreational travel between Johannesburg and Bulawayo.

Enhancing Tourism and the Local Economy

The decision by Fastjet to expand could benefit not only domestic fliers but international tourists as well. The ease of access to the attractions surrounding Bulawayo will undoubtedly be enhanced by the additional flights. Moreover, these increased connections between Johannesburg and Bulawayo hold the potential to stimulate the local economy, invigorate the tourism sector, and create fresh opportunities for ancillary businesses.

An air of expectancy surrounds the additional flights that have been scheduled for Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The third frequency flights will depart Johannesburg at 11:10 and arrive in Bulawayo at 12:30. Return flights from Bulawayo will take off at 13:00, touching down in Johannesburg at 14:20. All flights will be run using an Embraer Regional Jet, an E145, capable of comfortably seating up to 49 passengers.

Fastjet: A Reputation for Excellence and Reliability

Fastjet’s commitment to expansion is not solely about boosting passenger numbers. It’s also about cultivating a reputation for reliability and outstanding service. The airline has managed to challenge the stereotypical perception of “low-cost carriers” by providing services that rival those of full-service airlines. Besides offering affordable prices, Fastjet stresses the importance of stellar inflight service, exceptional passenger handling, and dependability, solidifying its position as a ‘value carrier’.

Even Sir Richard Branson, the iconic British entrepreneur, appears to have been impressed by Fastjet’s dedication to high-quality service. Much to the surprise of the Fastjet crew and staff, he flew to Zimbabwe’s capital, Harare, on a Fastjet flight, sparking rumours of a possible investment in the privately owned airline. Branson, a frequent visitor to Zimbabwe with significant involvement in wildlife conservation projects, appears to have found a trustworthy aviation partner in Fastjet.

Paving the Way for Economic and Tourism Growth
