The second day of the Lifesaving SA National Club Championships in Gqeberha saw Fish Hoek and Umhlanga steal the show with their impressive gold medal haul. Georgia Singe from Fish Hoek and Sasha-Lee Nordegen Corris from Umhlanga were the day’s standouts.
After winning the Female Open Iron on the first day of the event, Nordegan Corris went on to win gold in the Open Female Board Race and the Open Female Run/Swim/Run. Singe was another gold winner at the start of the week-long competition. In the Female Open Single Ski and the u17 Female Open Single Single Ski, she did a great job. Singe also won gold in the u17 Female Iron, and she helped Fish Hoek win gold in the Female Junior Double Ski and the Female Junior Ski Relay. Babette van Rooyen, who played with Singe, was also often on the awards stand. The dishes from Fish Hoek, Clifton, and Umhlanga were the best. Llandudno came in at number four.
They are the Tuks. The Male Open Rescue Tube Rescue was won by a group of four: Johan Lourens, Robbie le Roux, Kian du Toit, and Jason Rodgers. Lourens is one of the most accomplished pool specialists in South African Lifesaving. He is one of the favorites to lead the individual points scoring when the Open National Club Pool Championships start Monday at Newton Park.
Singe and Nordegen Corris have done very well at this year’s event. Their impressive results show how good the competition is and how much ability is coming up through the younger ranks. Singe, in particular, has been dominant in the surf, but she had to settle for a rare second place in the Female u19 run/swim/run event, won by Summerstrand’s Keira van Heerden.
Other notable performances came from Kings Beach’s Keegan Cooke, who won the Male Open Beach run at his home club, and Summerstrand’s Christian Davidson, who beat Clifton’s Naor Lombard in the u19 Male Run/Swim/Run.
The DHL Lifesaving SA National Club Championships will continue with various competitions until April 5, with the Surf and Pool Championships taking place on different days.
“Singe has been sensational at this year’s event, and Nordegen Corris has produced stunning results, given the quality of the opposition and the wave of talent emerging from the junior ranks.”
