Former Springboks rugby player Derick Hougaard’s journey of recovery is a remarkable tale of hope and resilience. In June, Nadine, Derick’s girlfriend, found him unresponsive in their home, and he was admitted to the Steve Biko Academic Hospital in Pretoria. Derick was diagnosed with respiratory pneumonia and fell into a coma for almost two weeks.

Recently, Derick has made significant progress in his recovery. Nadine reported that he has regained consciousness and is attempting to walk and talk. A significant milestone in his recuperation is that he no longer requires a ventilator to assist him in breathing.
