GCIS Empowers South African Youth with Vuk Talks Podcasts

The Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) of South Africa is launching “Vuk Talks Podcasts” on June 29, 2023. This initiative aims to increase accessibility to the Vuk’uzenzele flagship publication and cater to the tech-savvy youth who prefer audio content for fast-paced, mobile news consumption.

Meeting the Needs of South African Youth

GCIS aims to empower South Africans through communication excellence. Vuk Talks Podcasts will play a crucial role in achieving this mission by providing access to essential government policy decisions and programs. The bi-monthly podcast will cover broader topics such as Gender-Based Violence and Femicide, Economic Reconstruction and Recovery, and Safety and Security.

Embracing Technological Advancements

To adapt to the evolving needs of citizens, GCIS is embracing technological advancements. The Vuk Talks Podcasts initiative exemplifies the progressive mindset necessary to ensure that no citizen is left behind in the quest for empowerment and progress. The podcast will be available for download from the www.gov.za website, making information easily accessible.

Empowering South African Youth

In line with the government’s strategy to create jobs and grow the economy, the Vuk Talks Podcasts will be hosted and produced by young people participating in an internship program at GCIS. This empowers the youth while embracing the rapidly evolving technological landscape. By including young people in the production and hosting of the podcasts, GCIS is giving them a unique opportunity to gain experience and hone their skills in a professional environment.

Acting Director General’s Statement

According to Michael Currin, GCIS Acting Director General, “We have to keep up with the pace! The launch of Vuk Talks Podcasts is yet another milestone in our quest, as government, to leave no one behind as we march courageously into the digital future.”

By offering a new and innovative platform to access vital information, the GCIS is taking another significant step in their mission to provide South Africans with the tools they need to make informed decisions and contribute to society. The launch of Vuk Talks Podcasts represents a significant step forward for GCIS and the South African government, making vital information more accessible and providing young people with a platform to learn, grow, and contribute to the nation’s development.
