GDX’s advocacy efforts are focused on crucial areas such as legal reform, inclusive education, and access to gender-affirming healthcare. These efforts have elevated the visibility of trans and gender-diverse communities over the past 13 years, both locally and internationally.

Supporting Trans-led Initiatives

Apart from its core objectives, GDX also supports the emergence of trans-led organizations and initiatives by providing technical assistance and organizational development. This approach fosters collaboration within the broader LGBTQ+ community in Southern Africa and beyond. GDX partners with like-minded organizations across Southern Africa, assisting with governmental processes and supporting the realization of human rights.

Empowering Communities

GDX’s theory of change revolves around empowering communities by focusing on strategic themes such as advocacy and research, capacity enhancement, and community access to direct services. By empowering communities, GDX aims to end injustices and drive positive change towards a society that embraces and celebrates gender diversity.

Priority Areas

To achieve its ultimate goal of a society where gender-diverse individuals can express themselves without prejudice, GDX focuses on key priority areas such as improving the legal, medical, and social situations of trans and gender-diverse people in Southern African contexts. Through research, advocacy, and collaborative partnerships, GDX strives to enhance healthcare access and promote inclusive education for gender-diverse learners.

International Advocacy

GDX also engages in international advocacy work by supporting regional organizations in their participation in the United Nations’ Universal Periodic Review (UPR). This collaboration enables GDX to contribute to human rights discussions on a global scale.

Sound Governance

GDX recognizes the importance of effective operational procedures and sound governance structures. To ensure that all structures serve both staff and the board, GDX maintains a voluntary board, creates an informed and accountable environment for staff, interns, and volunteers, documents internal procedures, develops work plans, manages organizational risks, and promotes organizational learning.

Gender DynamiX’s pioneering work in advocating for trans rights in Africa has significantly advanced the rights and visibility of transgender and gender-diverse people over the years. With a firm commitment to human rights and a vision of an inclusive society, GDX will undoubtedly continue its influential role in the trans and gender-diverse movement in South Africa, Africa, and beyond.
