Jazzart Dance Theatre, one of Cape Town’s most respected dance companies, will be marking its 50th anniversary with an unmissable Festival of Dance at the Artscape Theatre. The event will run from October 5th to 14th and is set to provide a captivating journey into the world of contemporary dance.
Jazzart Dance Theatre has been a catalyst for exceptional dance in South Africa for half a century. To celebrate this legacy, the 50 Years of Dance Celebratory Festival has been created, offering a lively and exuberant program.
The Festival of Dance will feature an extraordinary line-up of guest companies and performers from both South Africa and abroad. Jazzart’s professional dancers, as well as students, will also be performing. The first week of the festival will showcase renowned names in contemporary dance such as Sifiso Kweyama, Celeste Botha, Elvis Sibeko, and Shaun Oelf, who will present their remarkable works.
Jazzart’s Artistic Director, Dane Hurst, will choreograph and direct “Requiem: Journeys of the Soul,” a thought-provoking exploration of remembrance and rebirth in a post-pandemic society. The production features music by Mozart and Neo Muyanga and is a collaborative effort with Cape Town Opera, Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Phoenix Dance Theatre.
The show will showcase Mozart’s renowned Requiem and Neo Muyanga’s “After Tears,” a piece that pays tribute to the beauty of life in a vivid, joyous, and uplifting manner.
The 50th Celebratory Festival of Dance by Jazzart Dance Theatre is a genuine homage to contemporary dance. It demonstrates why this company remains a cherished favorite in South Africa and shines on the international stage.
