Dining Area at Jewell’s

The restaurant is beautifully designed, with a spacious indoor dining room and a view-soaked verandah. The views are of the surrounding farmlands, with the Simonsberg Mountains and Table Mountain framing the scene. It’s a cool, shady respite from the blistering heat and kid- and dog-friendly – but that doesn’t deter dogless and childless diners.

Food

Tina’s breadboard is a must-try, with warm bread straight out of the oven accompanied by farm butter, cauliflower hummus, and chicken liver pâté that melts in the mouth. Neil’s famous charcuterie board is also a winner, featuring excellent cured meats and twice-baked Klein Rivier cheese soufflé. The mains are equally delicious, with local Red Angus sirloin served with mushroom velouté and straw potatoes and Fairview lamb belly with black garlic, celery, and butter bean elements.

If you have any room left, the plate of sweets is a little platter sent straight from heaven. Madeleines warm out of the oven; homemade wine gums flavored with Spice Route red and white wine, light little meringues, and dark chocolate truffles are all included.

Service and Atmosphere at Jewell’s

Service is attentive but not in your face, and there’s plenty of space for social distancing between tables. The restaurant is next to the Spice Route wine tasting so you can start or end your meal with a wine tasting across the lawn. A kids’ menu is available, and there’s plenty of space for children to run around.
