Langeberg: A Hidden Gem in the Cape Winelands District

The Langeberg region, located in the northeastern corner of the Cape Winelands District, comprises the charming towns of Robertson, Ashton, Bonnievale, McGregor, and Montagu. Each of these towns offers visitors a unique experience with its rich history, natural beauty, and sense of community.

Exploring the Towns

Robertson boasts a majestic church and the art nouveau-style Montagu Country Hotel, which exemplifies the region’s architectural heritage. The area’s cottages and homesteads offer an authentic countryside experience. McGregor, one of the Western Cape’s best-kept secrets, has a nineteenth-century charm that transports visitors back in time.

Sempurna Estate

Sempurna Estate, located just outside McGregor in the Little Karoo, spans 450 hectares of unspoiled Karoo fynbos and offers luxury and self-catering accommodations. The estate’s Sentai Suites provide an elegant and comfortable stay, with each suite featuring a lounge, kitchenette, ensuite bedroom with king-sized beds, and a private patio. The Kecil Cottage, an original settler’s house that has been meticulously restored, provides a more authentic countryside experience.

Dining at Tebaldi’s Restaurant

Tebaldi’s Restaurant, situated in the spiritual garden retreat of Temenos, offers a fine-dining experience with contemporary country cuisine crafted from ethically and sustainably sourced ingredients. Chef Christiaan Campbell and his team create dishes such as Laingsburg deboned lamb neck and salted hake fillet, with desserts like crème brûlée and cherry and almond tart.

The Langeberg region is a hidden treasure with its history, natural beauty, and hospitality making it a must-visit destination for those seeking the charm and tranquility of countryside living.
