Stellenbosch’s wine-bar scene has been growing, and Le Grand Domaine Enoteca is the newest addition in the lively town center on Church Street. This sophisticated yet casual wine bar is a partnership between two boutique wine estates, Le Grand Domaine and Stellenview Wines. The warm and inviting space highlights their premium wine ranges and offers a relaxed evening of food, wine, and live music on Thursdays.
Entering the wine bar is like walking into a modern country-house library with tall glass-doored cabinets filled with wine bottles and books. The back wall is made of natural copper, engraved with the logos of the two estates, and the woodwork is painted bottle green. The leather banquette lining the room’s length, leather and wood chairs, oak tables, and marble-topped bar give the space a luxurious feel. Plant-filled window boxes and umbrellas shade several tables on the wide pavement outside.
At Le Grand Domaine Enoteca, you can purchase a bottle, a glass, or a taster portion of any of the 30 wines produced on the two estates. On the menu, you’ll also find five distinct flight selections, including white, cabernet sauvignon, shiraz, Le Grand Domaine, and Kruger; however, you also have the opportunity to design your tasting flight out of the available wines. The Pledge, Cape Five, Kenzo Faure Kruger Wines, Great Five Reserve, Le Grand Vin Stellenbosch, Kruger Family Wines, and Stellenview Reserve.
The short bistro-style menu pairs well with the wines and changes seasonally. The food is mainly on various-sized plates, making it ideal for sharing. There are several delicious options to choose from, including a creamy risotto with wild mushroom, tender Patagonian squid with chipotle, great Florentine steak with pistachio and rocket salad, steamed baozi filled with pork belly or mushroom and vegetables, and half a dozen oysters paired with a glass or two of Le Grand Domaine MCC. Additionally, make sure to try their exceptional chips topped with truffle Parmesan.
Le Grand Domaine Enoteca is a gem for wine lovers seeking a relaxed evening of food, wine, and live music. The wine bar offers an exceptional selection of handcrafted wines and classic bistro-style food that pairs well with them. The staff provides excellent service, and the warm and inviting atmosphere makes it an ideal spot to visit in Stellenbosch.
