Leo’s Wine Bar – The Gem of Cape Town

Tucked away on Bree Street in Cape Town, Leo’s Wine Bar is an intimate spot with a unique atmosphere that sets it apart from other bars. During the day, the bar is transformed into a bagel shop, but by night it becomes a cozy wine bar where the locals come to unwind. With only six seats at the bar and one reservation table, most patrons spend their time mingling with passersby outside the bar.

Carefully Selected Wine List at Leo’s Wine Bar

It’s not just the atmosphere that makes Leo unique. The wine list changes daily and features 15-20 carefully selected wines from smaller allocations, hard-to-find producers, and all things local and exciting. The selection of natural and minimal intervention wines is impressive, and it’s not uncommon to find winemakers taking over the bar to showcase their latest creations. What’s more, the winemaker gets to pick the playlist for the evening.

Delicious Pizza Bagels

If you’re feeling peckish, Leo’s has covered you with their killer pizza bagels. And if you’re lucky enough to find the owner, Matt, behind the bar, you might even get some marital advice for free.

Listening Room

Leo’s is more than just a wine bar; it’s a listening room too. Leo’s will be hosting regular vinyl listening sessions in partnership with A11, where guests can enjoy their glasses of wine while listening to their favorite tunes.

Minimalist Aesthetic at Leo’s Wine Bar

Leo’s also boasts a clean and minimalist aesthetic, with revolving art exhibitions on the walls from Hoick Studios. They serve light snacks like olives, bagel chips, and antipasti platters, as well as more filling options like their famous pizza bagel.

Great Place To Meet Friends

Leo’s is a great place to meet friends for a night out or wine tasting. They currently offer about 20 wines, 10 of which you can buy by the glass. Of course, the by-the-glass options often change, so expect to try something new every time you visit. And Leo prides itself on stocking wines that are made naturally and receive minimal intervention in the cellar.
