Lynn Forbes, also known as Glammy, is a courageous and resilient woman who has set her sights on a new challenge after conquering Mount Kilimanjaro five years ago. Her latest adventure involves reaching the base camp of Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world. This new quest seems to be driven by a need for peace and serenity amidst a difficult period in her life.
Forbes lost her son, AKA (Kiernan Forbes), a South African rapper, earlier this year. He was shot and killed by an unknown assailant outside a restaurant in Durban. This tragic loss left his family and fans in shock, and it has been a tumultuous time for Forbes.
On her 55th birthday, Forbes reflected on her life and shared a photo from her 2018 Kilimanjaro summit. She expressed how the mountain taught her humility, patience, and gratitude, and how she felt detached from reality and yearned for a new adventure. She stated that “the mountain is calling, and I must go…to rekindle my spirit and nourish my soul.”
Forbes confirmed her intention to climb Mount Everest’s base camp through social media. This journey will test her mental and physical strength, with the famous peak located in the Himalayan mountains, straddling the China-Nepal border in Asia.
Forbes’ experience climbing Kilimanjaro in 2018 will undoubtedly prove valuable for this new challenge. She was part of the Trek4Mandela Expedition, a group that tackled Africa’s highest mountain in Tanzania. The climb marked her 50th birthday and celebrated her first grandchild Kairo Forbes, while raising funds for charity. Together, the climbers raised over R1 million ($70,000) to support charitable organizations focusing on disadvantaged schoolgirls in South Africa.
Forbes’ upcoming venture to Mount Everest’s base camp is a testament to her determination and bravery. Although the exact timeline for this expedition is unclear, Forbes’ resolve to embrace the challenge is unmistakable.
Lynn Forbes serves as an inspiring example of courage and perseverance in a world fraught with adversity. Her journey from Mount Kilimanjaro’s summit to Mount Everest’s base camp is a testament to the power of the human spirit and the transformative impact of daring to dream big.
