Maserati MSG Racing Triumphs in the 2023 London E-Prix

Maserati MSG Racing has had an inspiring comeback season in the 2023 London E-Prix with a total of 137 points in the second half of the season. Despite early challenges, the Monaco-based team’s unwavering motivation has led to a remarkable comeback campaign in the UK capital.

Tumultuous Weekend in London

The London E-Prix weekend began with a successful top-five finish by Edoardo Mortara in Race One due to a series of overnight time penalties. However, light rain during Group B qualifying brought the team’s campaign to an early end as Mortara and teammate Maximilian Günther failed to advance to the duel-stages. With heavy downpour before the final race, the season finale started behind the Safety Car and was red-flagged after five laps due to worsening conditions.

Resilience and Strategy

Ninety minutes later, a full restart of the race began, and both drivers found their rhythm on the constantly changing track. The wet weather and shorter race distance minimized the need for energy conservation, prompting Mortara and Günther to choose Attack Mode early to gain track positions. This strategy helped Mortara reach tenth place, but sudden loss of traction in challenging conditions cost him ground to competitor Dan Ticktum. Meanwhile, Günther climbed to fourteenth place.

Season Closing and Future Expectations

As Season 9 closes, all eyes turn to Season 10, with pre-season testing at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, Spain, between October 23-27. Team Principal James Rossiter expressed immense pride in the team’s recovery and achievements, attributing their success to hard work behind the scenes and resilience during tough days. Both drivers, Mortara and Günther, praised the team’s impressive turnaround and shared optimism for the upcoming season.

Giovanni Sgro, Head of Maserati Corse, acknowledged the challenging weather conditions experienced during the London E-Prix and celebrated the team’s resilience and competitive drive. Season 9 saw Maserati achieve its first podium, first victory, and first home race podium, unforgettable milestones that have built a strong momentum heading into Season 10. The fans of Maserati MSG Racing are eagerly waiting for the next chapter of their journey, with high hopes for further triumphs on the horizon.
