Minister Khumbudzo Ntshavheni Leads Friends of BRICS National Security Advisors Meeting

On July 24, 2023, Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni played a vital role in the Friends of BRICS National Security Advisors Meeting. The event took place in Sandton, where Ntshavheni warmly welcomed her BRICS Security counterparts.

Friends of BRICS Countries in Attendance

The Friends of BRICS countries that attended the meeting included Belarus, Burundi, Cuba, Egypt, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. These nations expressed an interest in BRICS membership, chaired prominent institutions in the Global South, or were invited by the host and fellow BRICS members.

Minister Ntshavheni’s Welcoming Address

In her opening speech, Minister Ntshavheni emphasized the significance of the meeting. It marked the first physical gathering after three years of the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, Ntshavheni highlighted that the discussion aimed to focus on topics of shared interest, mutual benefit, and the generation of lasting partnerships that would support global development, resilience, and peace.

The Minister also emphasized the importance of reinforcing the ways in which BRICS and the United Nations’ Multilateral system address pressing challenges such as counter-terrorism, transnational crimes, and cybersecurity.

Throughout the day, BRICS delegates held several bilateral discussions among themselves and with Friends of BRICS nations on various issues and interests specific to individual countries. These engagements are expected to continue in the future, focusing on areas of mutual interest for all participating nations.
