Traditional and Khoi-San leaders can be change agents within their communities, addressing social ills such as gender-based violence and substance abuse. The Department of Social Development conducted household and community profiling in the area to develop and implement job creation strategies to combat these issues. Women and youth, who are disproportionately affected by high unemployment rates, make up the primary target groups for these initiatives.

Empowering Education and Bridging the Digital Divide

As part of the programme, Minister Zulu donated desktop computers to the local secondary school to invest in education for learners living in rural areas. The contribution aims to bridge the digital divide and ensure that no learner is left behind in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Media Coverage and Government Commitment

Members of the media were invited to attend and cover the event, which showcased the importance of collaboration between government officials and traditional leaders to facilitate positive change in South African communities. Through combined efforts, they can create sustainable solutions to issues like gender-based violence, substance abuse, and unemployment.

This empowerment programme demonstrates the government’s dedication to uplifting women, youth, and rural communities in South Africa. By recognizing the importance of traditional and Khoi-San leaders in driving change, the Department of Social Development opens doors for these communities to overcome the challenges they face and work towards a better future.

Overall, Minister Zulu’s involvement in the National House of Traditional and Khoi-San Leaders’ Women and Youth Empowerment Outreach Programme is an essential step towards empowering South Africa’s marginalized communities. By working together with traditional leaders, the government can help create lasting positive change in the lives of countless women and youth throughout the country.
