Minister in the Presidency for Electricity, Dr. Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, has arrived in Nairobi, Kenya to attend the first-ever Africa Climate Summit (ACS) from September 4 to 6, 2023. The summit, under the theme “Green Growth and Climate Finance for Africa and the World,” is hosted by the Kenyan government and headed by the African Union’s (AU) Committee of African Heads of States on Climate Change (CAHOSCC), led by Kenya.
The ACS has attracted African heads of state, international leaders, and stakeholders who are committed to discussing, collaborating, and sharing knowledge on climate action and sustainability measures in Africa. Dr. Ramokgopa is part of the South African delegation led by Minister of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment, Barbara Creecy.
On September 4, 2023, Dr. Ramokgopa will join a ministerial panel discussion on “Africa’s Green Hydrogen, Industry & Trade Potential.” The ministerial panel will highlight Africa’s potential for green industrial production and untapped opportunities in green hydrogen production. The growth potential can significantly contribute to Africa’s economy, addressing local, regional, and global energy demands, as well as the need for industrial feedstock and derivative products such as fuels and fertilizers.
On September 5, 2023, Dr. Ramokgopa will continue his involvement in the ACS by attending the Africa Green Hydrogen Alliance (AGHA) forum. The minister will participate in a panel discussion, “Financing Green Hydrogen in Africa – from Bridgetown to Nairobi,” where he will share his insights into green hydrogen financing on the continent.
While participating in the ACS’s proceedings, Dr. Ramokgopa remains deeply concerned about the ongoing load shedding stage 5 situation back home. He maintains continuous communication with Eskom’s Generation team leaders to guarantee a swift return to service for all affected units.
For those unable to attend the summit, the Inaugural Africa Climate Summit (ACS) provides livestreaming options through various platforms, including LinkedIn, YouTube, and the ACS website.
The Inaugural Africa Climate Summit is a groundbreaking summit that offers a critical platform for African leaders and international stakeholders to unite in addressing climate change and fostering sustainable development. With the participation of esteemed figures like Minister Ramokgopa and the exchange of innovative ideas, the summit paves the way for a greener, more prosperous future for Africa and the world.
